So, I've been checking out this new series!... my comments are only going to be based on my personal taste of course, but: to me the different levels of "abstraction" in the images is somehow disturbing. personally the more abstract you go, the more I love your images. 1,3 and 4 are amazing I think -all about shapes and colors and space, very surreal, and so subtle. so then when I see images like 6 and 7, they are less powerful to me because I am back to "reality" in a way... something less open to interpretation. so maybe it is going to be a weird statement but I'd love to see that guy photographed like you shot the trees in the 3rd image... (and no I am not sure myself what that would be like..:-)
actually yes, I know: in your chinatown series, your subjets are people, and there's definitely something like that, something complex and open like those trees.
hey Charlie ! I am glad to hear that you are back ! :-) The guy on the photo does ju-jitsu; I took that last week where they train (on howard and 8th, you see them from the street).
Also I dont know if you've been to 49 geary lately, but at Stephen Wirtz Gallery there is a print by Paul Shiek, of trees in the fog, that really reminded me of your shot -except that it's black and white. you should check it out -it's really good. see you soon !
